Dave Savino was a surprise, but non-the less loved. He was brought up like an only child, but with brotherly love. His three college age brothers used him to pick up women. Dave had the lay of the land to explore and to get into anything and everything. His Catholic school education spawned a respect and disrespect for the necessity of religion, and often doodled harmless abstract designs that were deemed satanic by non-artistic teachers and guidance councilors. After receiving his BA from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in printmaking and photography he set his sights on finally moving out of the state he grew up in. Dave now enjoys the southern weather of Athens, GA where he is an MFA candidate in printmaking at the University of Georgia.
The influences of technology and religion in his own life show through his work, and his creative process. He often relies on digital technology as a way of transferring his images through several mediums as well as traditional printmaking processes. Dave also uses influences from his Catholic upbringing and personal experiences to create works that question the very systems and ideas he uses to make it. His blend of appropriated images and drawings depict the human body as a vessel subjected to various transformations, which helps inform his own questioning of humanity.
